Head Traffic Reviews
Cherelle
Jardine shows on her latest effort Head Traffic that she's
a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll and does
both genres very well. That being said, I tend to favour the
more country rock flavoured songs as this is where she really
shines.
Particularly
songs like the opener Bed Of Nails, Key To My Heart and my
personal favourite Maybe Tonight, a fantastic ballad featuring
appearances by Bazil Donovan and Bob Egan of Blue Rodeo fame.
Egan's mandolin and dobro playing nicely complements the best
vocal performance on the album.
If
you're a fan of Sheryl Crow, you'll really enjoy this album
and songs like Start A Party and Don't Wanna Go To Work are
songs that if recorded by someone like Shania Twain with major
label backing and super producer hubby Mutt Lange would be
all over the radio. Being an independent, here's hoping local
radio gives these songs a chance.
As
mentioned, I like the more country flavoured songs best, but
a couple of listens to rocker Head Traffic and it'll be stuck
in your head. Jardine also shows a real flair for storytelling
on tracks like Son Of A Gun and Hollywood.
Best
Track. definitely Maybe Tonight and the above mentioned title
track with honourable mention going to Key To My Heart, another
song that deserves radio exposure on local country radio.

Maybe
a conclusion can be reached this way;the title track is reminiscent
of Creams "Tales of Brave Ulusses" while the best
sung track is a cover of Hearts "Magic Man".
Produced in the main by Ray Roper of Stonebolt, Head Traffic
has humour and personality with a strong West coast flavour.

RZR
RZR is the regrouping of Stonebolt singer/guitar player, Ray Roper and his old friend and original drummer for the Ray Roper Band, Jo "Ziggy" Ziccardo. Back with a new album entitled "Thunder in a bottle", as the title suggests, these boys have some pent up energy waiting to unleash on some unsuspecting audiences. Not all thunder has to be deafening though, as the tracks on the album are well crafted, melodic rock songs reminiscent of Springsteen, Huey Lewis and maybe Supertramp. Enlisting the help of Steve Hilliam (Colin James) on sax has given the album a flavour all of its own. Along with some good ol' fun rock and roll, there are some production numbers with a slightly darker tone and thick instrumentation. Did someone say Floyd? And of course the signature Ray Roper ballads will be there for those who remember "I Will Still Love You", Stonebolts biggest hit. RZR is back to basics, grass roots, intelligent rock played with the RaZoRs edge! Bring a fresh set of ears and let your hair down.
