Biography   press one sheet

Beginnings

The road towards a musical career began early for Toronto born Cherelle Jardine. At eight she was introduced to the piano at a friend’s house and she was hooked. At fourteen she wrote her first song and three years later she began to play guitar. After a brief stint in a band environment, with AZ IZ in 1992, Cherelle decided upon the solo route to pursue her career. Seizing the opportunity to trade volunteer time at Bullfrog Studios for valuable studio time, she recorded her debut solo release; 1993's "Wanna be with you" In 1994, Cherelle released her first full-length CD "Born Naked". Working with Producer Gerry Gagnon. Cherelle put together a strong "official" debut. Co producing the album was a solid step for Cherelle, setting the stage for more recording to come.

It was a busy time for Cherelle. The pace of her advancement as a professional musician quickened, Cherelle was extremely active in the "behind the scenes" of British Columbia’s musical community with her acceptance to the board of the Pacific Songwriter’s Association as President in 1996 (as well as assisting in most capacities with the PSA publication Hook Line and Singer). In 1997, Cherelle also co-founded the Pacific Alliance of Independent Recording Artists, a non-profit society, which coordinated the efforts of its members to network, support and promote their individual projects. Cherelle was also a director of Women In Music, and Salmon City Music, a Richmond based music group.

Something Good Is Happening

Cherelle hardly paused for a breath before putting together a new band which would showcase the new batch of songs that were to pop up on her second independently released CD "Something good is happening" in 1998-an effort which received similarly glowing reviews as Born Naked. Produced by Rob Begg at Marpole Studio in Vancouver.

"Bleeding Water" the 3rd CD in Cherelle's body of work was a departure for Cherelle, at least in terms of her development as a musician and as a storyteller. Cherelle retained the pop/rock sound her fans were familiar with, but added a bolder mix of lyrical worldliness and emotional vision.

Cherelle brought in some of the most respected names in Canada’s music community to help interpret her new songs-Bazil Donovan (Blue Rodeo), David Sinclaire (Sarah McLachlan) Jerry Adolphe (Chilliwack, Jim Burns), Robbie Steininger (Paul Hyde), Steve Hall (Farmers Daughters). Bleeding Water was officially released Feb 2001. "Bleeding Water" the title track was picked up on local British Columbia radio and "So Beautiful" was the 2 nd release picked up. The BC stations were major,college/indie stations helping to further distinguish her in the music community.

Not only is Cherelle a musician and recording artist, Cherelles community work in Richmond BC has been ongoing, developing a strong music scene, creating venues for her fellow musicians to perform at. From her sold out summer concert series to her monthly music concert presentation "Musical Expressions", Cherelle is a highly sought after musician. For her community work, Cherelle was nominated for an Ethel Tibbits Award in 2005 for her service to the Arts and Cultural Community.

The Road Ahead

It had been 3 years since "Bleeding Water" and Cherelle was ready to get back into the studio . With help from Canadian music legends Blue Rodeo, Jardine flew back to Toronto and recorded 4 songs with band mates Bob Egan, Bazil Donovan and James Gray at their studio The Woodshed. Coming back to Vancouver with tracks engineered by Chris Shreenan-Dyck, Jardine brought in Ray Roper and David Wills of Stonebolt fame to record the rest of the songs for the project. Ray, David and Cherelle worked diligently recording the remaining songs and brought in Vancouver's most prominent musicians, Jerry Aldophe-drums, Louis Nitikman-piano, Karl Watt-drums and Charlie Hase-pedal and lap steel. Roper played guitars, bass background vocals and organ and David sang background vocals and played percussion.

March 25 2006 marked the release date for Cherelle's 4th cd titled Head Traffic . A sweet mixture of genres, Head traffic is the most honest and revealing recording Cherelle has made to date. The listener will ask, "Who is Cherelle?" Is she a street kid, a hopeless romantic, a dreamer, a fighter, a believer? From the remake of Heart's "Magic Man" to the solo acoustic love song that ends the disc, fans will love this next release in Cherelle's body of work Head Traffic.

Come and feel the traffic in her head.
